FORMER Warrington Rylands forward Adama Sidibeh has been discharged from hospital after collapsing at the end of a match on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Gambian, who joined Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone on February 1, received lengthy medical treatment on the St Mirren pitch before being taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Sidibeh, who was Blues’ top scorer this season before heading north, still awaits a scan and the St Johnstone manager Craig Levein says a cautious approach will be taken to the player’s health.

Levein said on his club’s official website: “The protocol is that he still has to get a scan. We are trying to organise that as we speak.

“We are just being as cautious as we need to be. Once that is done and we get the ok, then we can get back to talking about the football side of things.

“Thankfully the medical teams did a really good job and they have taken care of him really well in hospital the last few days.

“We will be guided by the people who know best with regards to his return to the squad.”

A club statement added: “As well as our own medical team, we would again like to place on record our thanks to the staff of St Mirren and to the staff at Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

“Adama himself would like to thank everyone for the kind messages of support he has received over the past couple of days.”

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has sent his best wishes to Sidibeh as he praised the actions of his club’s medical staff for their response on Saturday.

Robinson said: “Our medical team were incredible, (physio) Gerry Docherty and Ian (Heron), our doc, were top class. St Johnstone acknowledged that as well, both medical teams.

“It really does put football into perspective when a boy has collapsed on the football pitch.

“We wish him well. Everybody at St Mirren wishes him well and we hope to see him back on the pitch fit and healthy as soon as possible.”

Sidibeh was reported to be in a stable condition after the game when Levein had said: “The doc said he had low blood pressure. He’s had lots of tests, he’s conscious and appears to be OK.

“He’s going to the local hospital for further tests just in case we missed something.

“He did get a knock on his head but was fine when the physio went on, there were no symptoms of problems.

“He stayed on the park. We had a chance pretty late on and maybe the keeper caught him. Maybe that led to him lying on the ground, I don’t know. We need to get further checks for peace of mind.”

Sidibeh joined Warrington Rylands from Cheadle Heath Nomads in the summer and spearheaded Blues' challenge for promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier Division with 16 goals in 30 appearances before his departure.
