WITH speculation building surrounding the future of leading scorer Adama Sidibeh, Warrington Rylands manager Michael Clegg says he is “relaxed” about the situation.

Clubs from higher up the footballing pyramid have taken notice of the striker’s displays, with the 21-year-old plundering 15 goals so far this season to fire Blues’ push for promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

The Guardian understands the club have rejected at least three firm offers for Sidibeh including one from a National League outfit, while clubs in the Football League and in Scotland are also said to be expressing interest.

Clegg insists there is no financial pressure on the club to sell Sidibeh, who joined the club from Cheadle Heath Nomads in the summer, and that the player himself remains unaffected by the situation.

He says he will happily help Sidibeh move on if the right opportunity comes along that suits all parties but that such a chance has not been forthcoming thus far.

“If I’m being open and honest, I don’t think the bids have been from the right clubs or the right people,” he said.

“In terms of Adama, he trusts us and he’s just focused on Saturday, which is music to our ears.

“What we’ve said to be people is “this is roughly the price, if you meet it and if it’s a club that he wants to join, he can go.”

“If not, the club don’t necessarily need the money.

“There may come a point where the offer gets too big to turn down but with where it’s at now, it just doesn’t affect us other than us losing our best player.

“We love having him and he loves being here, so it’s going to take something everybody is very happy with for him to leave.

“Do I think I’ll be coaching him in pre-season? Absolutely not, but we’ll enjoy having him until then.

“He’s still got loads of work to do, but we really believe in him and he’s got great people around him.

“He’s our main man and he’s thriving on it. Playing constant football is the best thing for him.”

In recent years, the likes of Elliott Nevitt and Callum Dolan have earned moves to the Football League having starred at Gorsey Lane – the former joined Tranmere Rovers having scored a hat-trick in Blues’ FA Vase final win at Wembley in 2021 and still remains in the EFL with Crewe Alexandra, while Dolan joined Fleetwood Town last year.

The club also made a profit in selling forward Kane Drummond to Macclesfield last season, while Clegg himself has nurtured the likes of Fleetwood’s Harvey Macadam and FC Halifax Town’s Millenic Alli to moves up the pyramid.

“I want Adama to go higher and I class that as almost winning a trophy. I see it as a massive string to my bow as well as the club’s carrying on from the likes of Kane Drummond, Callum Dolan and Elliott Nevitt," the Rylands boss said.

“What that does do for us is that it makes young players want to come and play for us because there’s a clear pathway there. That’s what we’re here for and that’s why we’re in it.

“We’ll take each day as it comes. I’m relaxed about it and it will happen when it happens.

“I’ve been through this before – it’s usually a game of ‘cat and mouse’ for a few weeks and then everything sort of happens naturally.”
