WARRINGTON Rylands are unlikely to have a new manager in place in time for their next game.

The club are currently inviting and sifting through applications to replace Michael Clegg, who left the club to join Northern Premier League Premier Division play-off rivals Macclesfield last week and are believed to be very pleased with the level of response.

Blues are not in action this weekend, with their next fixture being the trip to FC United of Manchester next Tuesday, March 5, in a game that is being replayed after the initial fixture on February 17 was abandoned just after the hour mark owing to an increasingly waterlogged pitch.

That proved to be the final time Clegg took charge of Rylands, and the Warrington Guardian understands the club do not expect to have his replacement in situ by the time they return to Broadhurst Park.

That would mean senior players Dean Furman and Sam Wilson once again take charge of the team having done so against Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, with the Holy Blues leaving Gorsey Lane with a 4-1 victory.

As things stand, it is thought a loose target is for the new boss to be in place in time to take charge of the trip to Bradford Park Avenue on March 9 although, as chairman Mark Pye explained to the Guardian last week, the club are willing to take their time to find the right man.

Rylands are currently fourth in the NPL Premier Division table with a four-point cushion inside the play-off spots.
